Poem May 26th 2013

The Loss
Waves circumambulate ship
like hungry sharks
butting hull
terrorizing contents
quaking inside
cowering
we await the end

Abandon ship
shaken into action
poisoned by fear
putting on life jackets
running to lifeboats

Jumping in
cradling into each other
we watch the ocean
dismember our ship

How we survived that night
I’ll never know
